About the North American Charitable Beard & Moustache Alliance
βAn alliance is an agreement or friendship between two or more parties, made in order to advance common goals and to secure common interests.β
The North American Charitable Beard & Moustache Alliance is a Weβre here to help clubs publicize, promote, and pull off the best comps they can to help the local charities they're supporting!
π’ π
NACBMA member clubs have come together to build a strong and resilient competitive bearding community, excited for upcoming events.
ποΈ π€
We believe that a rising tide lifts all ships and we work together to facilitate communication and discussion within the greater bearding community.
Founding
The day following the 2011 National Championships in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, a group of 9 clubs got together with the concept of forming an alliance to help grow and promote the charity beard and moustache competitions held by hometown clubs, and provide a group to help coordinate and schedule events. The end result was the North American Competitive Beard and Moustache Alliance (NACBMA), A.K.A. "The Alliance."
The main points being:
A consistent framework for judging (scoring, categories).
Coordination of events (to prevent overlaps, help publicize events both before and after).
No cash prize awards, and clubs are strongly encouraged to use profits for charity.
To establish a North American championship.
A better foundation and organization for North American clubs to join the World Beard and Moustache Association if desired.
Current Setup
We've followed the basics of the World Beard & Moustache Association model:
An Executive Board, w/a President and 4 Vice Presidents to better direct activities and delegate responsibilities, and a Secretary/Information Officer.
Full and Associate Member Club designations were established.
Some simple qualifications for clubs were set up to make sure established clubs could lead the way and guide new clubs, while making sure they a voice.
Organizing the Great American Beard & Moustache Championship, chosen via Olympic-style bids by Full Member Clubs every even-numbered year.
In 2023, we decided to update our name to the βNorth American Charitable Beard & Moustache Allianceβ to better, more broadly, describe the work we all are already doing. We will all continue to hold our charity competitions as we always have. We will continue to hold the GABMC. Charity facial hair competitions will continue to be our specialty β what weβre best known for, just not what NACBMA member clubs are only known for.
